Standardbred Showing

Showing contact

Whether you are entering your first ring or chasing a national title, someone here can help. Start with the NZSBA showing team for anything to do with passports and breed matters, or go straight to the organisation that runs the class, series or show you have in mind.

NZSBA showing enquiries

The first stop for Standardbred Showing Passports, breed registration questions, show sponsorship and anything else on the breed side of showing. We aim to answer every enquiry within two working days.

Please include your horse's registered name and, if you have one, your passport number. It saves a round of emails.

Who to contact, and what for

Showing a Standardbred touches a few different organisations. This is the short version of who does what.

NZSRA

New Zealand Standardbred Riding Association

The national club for people who ride Standardbreds, whatever the discipline or level. NZSRA runs shows, training days, trail rides and social events, keeps an end of year high points award series, and puts out a regular newsletter with training and education content. Based in Christchurch with members nationwide and a Southland branch. A good place to start if you want to ride your horse rather than lead it.

NISA

North Island Standardbred Association

The North Island association promoting the Standardbred as a pleasure horse and supporting life after racing. NISA runs shows and events through the season, administers its own high points competition, and takes membership and high points entries online each year. The best contact point for North Island showing dates, classes and local knowledge.

RAS

Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand

The governing body for A&P shows and show horse competition in New Zealand. RAS sets the showing rule book, accredits judges, issues height certificates, publishes the national show calendar and runs the Showing Titles Championship and Horse of the Year. If your question is about rules, eligibility, entries or judging at an affiliated show, RAS is the authority.

HRNZ

Harness Racing New Zealand

The industry body that registers and records every Standardbred in the country. HRNZ holds the official horse records used to confirm a horse's identity, breeding, colour, markings, brand and microchip, and administers microchipping and welfare. Use the HRNZ horse search to check your horse's registered details before you apply for a passport.

HERO

Harness Education and Rehoming Opportunities

HRNZ's rehoming and re-education programme, and the main pathway from the racing stable to the show ring. HERO horses are retrained by accredited educators and matched with new homes, going on to show, trek, jump or simply be a pleasure horse. The programme also lists horses for sale, runs a horse ambassador scheme and publishes a handbook and support material for new owners. Contact HERO if you are looking for a Standardbred to show, or if you have one that needs a second career.
