The 2025/26 breeding season produced 1,785 services across 67 stallions, up 6.6 per cent on last season and the strongest result in sixteen years. Behind that total sit two very different stories.

Pacing accounted for 1,239 services, up 6.8 per cent on the 1,160 recorded in 2024/25. What makes that lift notable is that it came from fewer stallions, 32 against 34 the year before. Pacing breeders served more mares and concentrated them into a smaller pool of sires.

Trotting went the other way. Services rose 6.02 per cent to 546, and the number of stallions used climbed from 32 to 35, the widest spread in the nine seasons shown here. Pacing consolidated. Trotting broadened. Both grew.

The individual books tell you where the concentration went. Downbytheseaside stands out, lifting from 74 services to 196, comfortably the largest book of the season. Sweet Lou held at 145, U S Captain arrived with 94 in his first season at stud, and Pebble Beach matched last year on 79. In the trotting ranks the load is spread far more evenly, with Oscar Bonavena on 52, Tactical Approach on 45, and Father Patrick and On A Streak both on 44.

A note on how the figures work. Some mares are served by two or more stallions, so services will always run ahead of individual mares served. Stallions who were not available in this or either of the two prior seasons are not listed, which is why the earlier columns in the individual tables will not add up to the season totals shown above them.
