New Zealand’s Own: King Of Swing, Set to Raise The Bar
9 Jul 2025
New Zealand has always been a breeding ground for greatness. From its fertile pastures have come some of the most dominant pacers ever to race on the Australasian stage. Few, if any, have cast a shadow as large or as enduring as King Of Swing.
Bred and raised by Breckon Farms, this son of Rocknroll Hanover left New Zealand a well-bred colt. He returned a legend.
A three-time Miracle Mile champion, $3 million earner, and Australian Horse of the Year, King Of Swing built a racetrack legacy that will be spoken of long after the trophies have gathered dust. His performances weren’t just dominant—they were defining. And now, he stands poised to do the same in the breeding barn.
This past year marked a significant milestone—his first yearlings hit the major Australasian sales rings. The response? Nothing short of extraordinary.
Across all major Australian and New Zealand sales, King Of Swing emerged as one of the leading first-season sires, instantly stamping his authority with strength, type, and commercial appeal.
His progeny grossed $1.37 million from 38 sold lots, averaging over $36,000. The colts led the way, averaging in excess of $44,000. Standouts included:
- A filly out of Queen Of Pop who topped the APG Melbourne Sale at $82,500
- A colt from Dancing Diamonds who fetched $85,000 at the Nutrien Sydney Sale
In New Zealand, the stallion’s return to his homeland was met with equal enthusiasm. At Karaka, Lot 26—the first King Of Swing colt sold at auction—was offered by Breckon Farms and brought $72,500, a fitting milestone on home soil.
Further momentum came at the Christchurch sale, where:
- A colt from Kate Black sold for $70,000
- One from Luminesce made $50,000
- The colt from Delightful Sheila—aptly named My Names Rocky—secured $65,000
But perhaps more telling than the numbers has been the universal praise from breakers, trainers, and agents alike. They’ve remarked on the willingness, athleticism, and outstanding temperament of the King Of Swing stock. Horses that not only look the part—but want to work.
What sets King Of Swing apart isn’t just his racetrack resume. It’s the powerful genetic engine room he draws from. By Rocknroll Hanover, one of the most influential pacing stallions the world has seen, out of the brilliant Artsplace mare Twist And Twirl NZ, King Of Swing represents the best of both hemispheres.
Twist And Twirl, of course, is not only the dam of King Of Swing, but also of Bettor Twist NZ, the champion filly whose dominance at three earned her the mantle of New Zealand’s top pacing filly. Their dam was crowned Pacing Broodmare of the Year in 2021, and her influence continues to ripple through Australasian breeding.
This season, for the first time, New Zealand breeders can access King Of Swing in his homeland—at a reduced service fee of $5,000 + GST.
That price offers not only pedigree and performance, but also progeny eligibility for:
- The new Harness 5000 Series (for stallions standing for $5,000 or less)
- The $200,000 Cobbitty Equine Classic, exclusive to progeny of Cobbitty stallions
This is your opportunity to breed to a true modern champion. A stallion with the blood, the deeds, and now—the momentum.
He was bred here. Raised here. And now, his future can be shaped here.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of his next chapter.
