Kiwi breds dominant at Gloucester Park
8 Oct 2026
New Zealand bred pacers won seven of the 10 races at the feature meeting at Gloucester Park last Friday night.
The haul was highlighted by a quinella in the Group 1 $150,000 Western Australian Oaks with Skinny Dippin leading throughout to defeat a gallant Manuka Bay.
Bred by Cantabrians Robert Anderson and Mike Stevens, Skinny Dippin is a Downbytheseaside filly out of the 1:57.4 winning Betterthancheddar mare Betterthankaty, the dam of earlier winners in Betterthancash (1:49.6) and Cash Is King.
Betterthankaty, who won three races, was a half-sister to the prolific Menangle winner Cash N Flow (1:49), the Australian 2YO Filly of the Year and Breeders Crown champion Katy Perry and the Group 3 winner Pitch Perfect (1:49.8).
The grand-dam Megaera won three Group races including the NZ Sires' Stakes 3YO Championship and Caduceus Club Classic and was one of the best fillies of her day.
Bet I'm Hot, a filly bred in NZ by the Perth based Oz-West Pacing syndicate, took out the Oaks Consolation. By the American import Bettor's Wish, and one of his first crop, she is from the grand producer When You're Hot (by McArdle), the dam of four Group and Listed winners including Typhoon Banner (1:48.8), a winner at Grade 1 level in America, and Cyclone Banner.
I'm Stealthy, a Downbytheseaside gelding bred by Macca Lodge, led in a NZ trifecta in the WA Derby prelude with Havtimeformiki second and D Mac third. Out of the Jereme's Jet mare Bay Jet, I'm Stealthy ranks as a half-brother to five sub 2:00 winners headed up by the 2022 WA Pacing Cup hero Wildwest.
Delightful Peg, the end to end winner of the Free-for-all, was one of three NZ bred winners by Bettor's Delight on the night. Bred by West Melton horseman Tony Barron, the four-year-old mare is out of the Live Or Die mare Elite Medley and thus a member of the same family as the Victorian "Cups King" Bold Cruiser, Badlands Jewel (Nevele R Fillies Series) and Lively Medley (WA Mount Eden Sprint).
Bettor's Delight was also represented by the winners Sister Cherie and Beetastic on the undercard.
Bred by Canterbury hobby breeder Peter Molloy, Sister Cherie is a six-year-old mare out of the Badlands Hanover mare Sheza Grunter, the dam also of the Wairarapa Cup winner Bettor Grunter and the Menangle and Gloucester Park victor Reaza Grunter.
The siblings Beetastic and Hugotastic (by Sweet Lou) won consecutive races on the night. Both were bred by Auckland veterinarian Dr Petra Hazlitt from the Art Major mare It's All On, whose produce include the WA Group winners Bettor Get It On and Mr Fantastic. This is the family of the WA Derby winner Ace Of Spades, Presido (NZ Yearling Sale Classic), Flask and so on.
