Free-for-all star for Heaven’s sake!

Retired Waikouaiti businessman Gerald Cayford and his long-time mate Gary Fyfe broke one of their golden rules when they sold the Sweet Lou gelding He’s From Heaven to Australian interests. It was a decision they have lived to regret.
“We’ve probably regretted it ever since because we aren’t in the breeding game to sell horses, we are here to race them,” Cayford admitted.
“We’re in the game to get a horse that can run in the Cup. He’s From Heaven was our Cup horse and we sold him. I told Gary that we are not doing that again.”
The partners parted with He’s From Heaven as an unraced two-year-old to clients of the Jess Tubbs stable in Victoria.
“He went to one qualifying trial at Oamaru and won that,” Cayford recalled.
From there the gelding quickly stamped himself among the State’s top three-year-olds, winning eight of his 17 starts including a streak of six straight, five of them at Melton. He has continued to build on that promise in his four-year-old season, adding another three wins from 11 starts and climbing back to an NR105 rating.
Last Saturday, Melbourne trotsgoers saw another glimpse of his class when He’s From Heaven trounced a strong Free-for-All lineup at Melton, storming home in closing quarters of 27.9 and 26.8. His bankroll now sits at $136,745 – and the best may be yet to come.
He’s From Heaven is the second foal of the unraced Dreams From Heaven, a Rock N Roll Heaven mare gifted to Cayford and Fyfe. She hails from the prized Harold’s Rest family, responsible for standouts such as multiple Group 2 winner Aztec Bromac, country cups performers Angela’s Dream and Fifth Edition, NZ Sapling Stakes winner Jackson Street, and more recently Roclea Image (1:51.3) at Menangle.
Her first foal, Heavens Beach (by Somebeachsomewhere), showed real promise before tragically dying in a paddock accident as a three-year-old. Fortunately, the family is bouncing back.
“We have a weanling full brother to He’s From Heaven. He’s a very nice colt that Donna Williamson has been looking after,” Cayford said. “He’s going down to Gary Argyle at Winton to be broken in. He definitely won’t be sold!
Dreams From Heaven is due to foal to Sweet Lou and we’ll probably return to him this season. I also have another broodmare, Laurie’s Legacy. She won eight trotting races but we never saw the best of her. She’s in foal to Royal Aspirations.”
Cayford has enjoyed further breeding success with the Malabar Maple mare Walktheviadolorosa and the Dream Away mare Tara Magic.
“Walktheviadolorosa has left four winners to date including Albion Park’s Five O’Clock Gerry, Winning Bones, and Granny Rose, who scored at Addington last month,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Tara Magic produced WA Golden Slipper winner Class Of Tara for the late Ray Anicich as her second foal before later leaving two moderate winners for Cayford.
“I’ve got a yearling filly out of her by Terror To Love to carry on the breed. She’s the last foal from her,” he said.
