Time And Tide’s producing run continues

Three-year-old filly Alecto recorded her third win from just 13 starts at Auckland last weekend, continuing the outstanding producing run of her dam Time And Tide for owner breeders Paul and Michael Kane.

The Bettor’s Delight filly is the sixth foal from the Mach Three mare, who won a race during a brief racing career when trained by Tony Herlihy. However, it is in the broodmare paddock that Time And Tide has truly excelled.

Her first foal Queen Lostris (by Roll With Joe) won five races in New Zealand before being exported to the United States where she has been timed in 1:51.2. Mr Kaplan (by Betterthancheddar) won seven races from the Purdon stable and earned close to $188,000 before retiring to stud, where he is now in foal to Sweet Lou for the same ownership.

Another daughter Throwyaarmsaroundme (by Sweet Lou) has won five races in Australia with a best mile rate of 1:55.3, while Alecto now looks capable of playing a role in this season’s three-year-old filly features.

That Time And Tide would become a valuable broodmare is hardly surprising. She is a half sister to NZ Oaks winner Aardiebytheseaside (22 wins and more than $630,000) and belongs to the immediate family of outstanding performers including NZ Cup winners Lazarus and Self Assured.

Nymbal shows promise at Auckland

Another notable performance at Auckland came from Nymbal, who scored an impressive victory one race later.

The son of Lazarus from Glenferrie EJ won in a manner suggesting there is much more to come for his large ownership group.

His dam Glenferrie EJ was a very capable racemare in Australia, winning 11 races and earning close to $100,000.

Nymbal is her fifth foal and four of them are already winners. The best to date has been Skye Mary Mac, who won seven races and recorded a mile rate of 1:54.2.

Glenferrie EJ (by Art Major from Maikona) comes from a successful family established by Canterbury breeder Don Bates and his Norwegian Wood breeding. The second dam Maikona won three races and produced nine winners, while several daughters have also bred on with distinction.

Many in the industry will remember horses from this line carrying the Beatles themed names including Lennon, Penny Lane and Hey Jude.

Timeless Perfection reaches eight from eight

Few broodmares can match the remarkable record of Timeless Perfection.

A winner of seven races from just 13 starts during her own racing career, the daughter of Christian Cullen has now left eight winners from eight foals to race following the recent victory of Eternal Perfection in a heat of the Young Guns series at Auckland.

Her best performers so far include Wahs Fire Bug (22 wins and more than $232,000) and Plutonium Lady (11 wins and more than $212,000).

Another daughter First Class Lady (by Artsplace) has already produced the exciting juvenile Freeze Frame, winner of a Sires Stakes race and the only horse to defeat boom three-year-old Jumal to date.

Timeless Perfection traces to Pacific Flight as her second dam. That mare was a top three-year-old before racing successfully in North America where she won 47 races and more than $562,000. The family ultimately traces back to outstanding filly and producer Black Watch.

With Eternal Perfection racing in the colours of Dancingonmoonlight, she appears unlikely to leave that ownership anytime soon.

Amici adds to strong Rosie Brogden family

Four-year-old mare Amici has made a promising start to her racing career, winning two of her first 10 starts.

The daughter of Art Major from Rosie Brogden may yet develop further on the track, but her pedigree alone suggests she could have an important future as a broodmare.

Her dam Rosie Brogden (by Western Terror from Class Act) won a race during a brief career but has already left the talented Mongolian Cavalry (by Mach Three), a 12 win performer with earnings of more than $102,000 and a mile rate of 1:53.1.

Rosie Brogden is a half sister to outstanding filly Classical, a five win performer who earned $294,000. Classical later became the grand dam of major Australian earners My Kiwi Mate (15 wins, $354,000) and My Kiwi Lady (44 wins in three countries, $428,000).

Another half sister Tact Philly has also proven highly successful at stud, producing Our Max Phactor (by Art Major), a 42 win performer with a 1:49.6 mile rate, and My Sweetchilliphilly (by Betterthancheddar), who won nine races from just 20 starts.

The pedigree traces back to the outstanding mare Loyal Nurse, a cup class performer who won 15 races during the 1940s.

Kenny family continues to shine

Six-year-old trotter One Over Da Line produced a strong weekend performance with two victories, lifting his career record to six wins and edging closer to $100,000 in earnings for the Diamond Racing team.

The son of Majestic Son is out of champion trotting mare One Over Kenny, who won 32 races from just 66 starts and surpassed the $1 million mark in stakes.

The family’s strength runs deep. Siblings and relatives include One Over Da Moon (22 wins), Ultimate Stride (16 wins) and One Over All (25 wins).

Two daughters of the family, One Over Da Stars and One Over Da Skye, are already breeding successfully and ensuring the line will remain prominent in trotting pedigrees for years to come.

The family traces back to Frances Jay Bee, a six win mare from North Otago. When bred to Sundon, the resulting line developed into one of New Zealand’s most commercial trotting families.

Over the past three decades the Kenny family has provided its connections with a remarkable run of success.

Secret Wish enhances Studholme pedigree

Secret Wish made an impressive return to racing when winning a heat of the Southland Oaks at Oamaru for owner breeder Studholme Bloodstock and Brian West.

The filly looks capable of playing a significant role in the major three-year-old filly races later this season.

Her value as a future broodmare is already assured and would increase further should her half brother Chase A Dream add the Miracle Mile to his record. The outstanding pacer has already won 12 races and more than $700,000.

Their dam Secret Lotion won three races for West and should not be confused with her full sister Secret Potion, a high class filly who won 10 races from 27 starts and earned $285,000.

Brian West has been closely associated with this family since the mid 1980s when he first established his Yonkers breeding partnerships.

The second dam Putting On The Glitz (by Walton Hanover) was unraced but produced Dream Bel, whose descendants helped establish the Studholme operation through performers such as cup class pacer Defoe, Lady Go Marching and All Systems Go. Another daughter, Nothin But A Dreamer, later produced the 1:48.8 performer Dream Out Loud.
